INDIANA JONES AND THE WEB SITE OF DOOM
Fans of the Nazi-hating, snake-fearing archeologist Dr. Indiana Jones rejoice! The Indiana Jones WWW Page is a must for those seeking information on the past and future exploits of Dr. Jones and his endless company of sidekicks. Visitors will find images captured from the three movies, complete scripts, spoofs (including the Indiana Jones Movie Formula), and the latest developments and gossip concerning the fourth, as yet untitled, as yet unwritten Jones flick. The site also contains links to archeological pages, some offering theories on the location of the Lost Ark of the Covenant. Dig out your fedora, whip and leather jacket, because adventure is just a link away. "http://dialin.ind.net/~msjohnso/"
Few of us would admit watching pro wrestling on TV, but what if you could _secretly_ indulge in this tacky, trashy pastime? Network Championship Wrestling lets you create your own fantasy wrestlers to compete against other brutes on the cyber-mat. While not quite a MUD, this site's remarkably rich in detail, with excellent help and examples showing how to create your characters, complete with meddling managers and marketable gimmicks. The dark, smoky arena is brought to life with lengthy dialogues and statistics lists. There's even room for wrestlers to have their own home pages here. This is weird, but somehow it works. A WHALE OF A FROG AND A HECK OF A HOME PAGE
We've been delinquent. Not even we can remember when we last brought a Web frog to your attention. Well, to make up for it, we bring you Harrison Page's page. It's got comedy. It's got pictures. It's got software. But best of all, it's got a Really Big Frog. The amphibian in question is a African bullfrog, and along with his pet's picture, Harrison posts the African Bullfrog Care Sheet. In real life, Harrison works for Adobe and that background shows up on his page, which is a testament to simple design that elegantly entertains. Our man Harrison is also a bit twisted, which only further endears him to us, and his page is a gold mine of similarly twisted links. "http://www.spies.com/harrison/"
A REALLY GOOD PHILOSOPHY PAGE (WE'RE SERIOUS)
We're impressed with the wide selection of Philosophy resources Sean Cearley built into his Sean's Philosophy Page. The page is quite large, and rich in resources. The table of contents has over a dozen major subject areas, including university philosophy departments around the world, projects, particular works, a list of "-isms", Gopher sites, journals, and the philosophers that make it all possible. Sean has given us plethora of interesting and thought-provoking places to visit. "http://www.rpi.edu/~cearls/phil.html"
WHAT HAS A GREEN SHELL AND FLIES?
Japanese SF buffs will smile with the knowledge that Gamera, the prehistoric, fire-breathing turtle awakened by a nuclear blast in 1965, now has his own home page. Besides a chronological synopsis with interesting trivia about each of his nine movies, there's a gallery of pictures and sounds, including that immortal moment when Helen demands a beverage in "Gamera vs. Zigra". The American presidential election takes place in only 16 months, so of course the candidates' campaigns are already underway. The Presidential CyberPoll lets Web surfers vote in a virtual version of the election, but they ask that you only vote once. The poll in no way represents the actual political process in the U.S., as all candidates are represented regardless of standing within a party. It would be really cool if the CyberPoll allowed each visitor a changeable ballot, to allow for future developments. We won't divulge the current results before you vote, but once you do, you may find the ranking of the Republican candidates suprising. Also check out the GOP page, below. "If riding in an airplane is flying, then riding in a boat is swimming. If you want to experience the element, get out of the vehicle." Thus begins "Skydive!", an in-depth resource for thrill-seekers of the free-falling kind. You'll discover information on worldwide skydiving associations and jumpsites, equipment, safety, training, and all types of skydiving, including freestyle and base jumping. Believe it or not, statistics show that skydiving is safer than boxing, scuba diving, ballooning, and driving a car, so go take a flying leap. "http://www.cis.ufl.edu/skydive"
AMERICAN STOCK EXCHANGE FINDS MARKET NICHE ONLINE
Described as the "first equities marketplace to offer its own Web site" (we'll take their word for it), the American Stock Exchange (AMEX) is doing a good job of testing the online waters. Perhaps it was inspired by its new alliance with America Online. AMEX offers daily online market summaries, a list of AMEX companies, information on options and derivatives, late-breaking market news, and more. You might expect the visuals to be a bit stuffy, but they're actually quite refreshing. "http://www.amex.com"
As a gimmick to present a lot of downright cool sites, the Temple isn't half bad. In fact, we'd give the Seeress of the Web an A+ for spectacular graphic presentation. Explore her Vision for a different interesting site every day, with past and future visions just a click away. You can also find a great list of "Most Worthy Sites" here, and submit your own. The Oracle takes you to a web chat space where, appropriately enough, everybody seems to be pretty mystified. The Daily area, possibly the best aspect of this site, provides a great selection of web sites updated on a daily basis. You can also visit a number of art shows in the Gallery. Definately high quality bookmark material. "http://www.cyberzine.com/seeress/"
GRAPHICALLY INSPIRING HOME PAGE
Designer Mike Comet, a master of Myst-like computer-generated graphics, offers a cordial display of his work, including a deep-space nebular background over which, incidentally, the yellow and white text can actually be read. He's also got quotations, anime links, and some other cool stuff. "http://inswww.ins.cwru.edu:8000/staff/comet/comet.html"
THE ALASKA DOG MUSHERS' ASSOCIATION PAGE
The primary purpose of the Fairbanks-based ADMA is to promote the sport of sled dog racing. Not surprisingly, their Web page provides dog sledding race schedules and results, mushing tips for beginners, trail advice, photographs, and a list of North American champions from 1946-1994. Also included are connections to Mushing Magazine (click on the dog) and End of the Road, a virtual community that's worth a visit (click on the moose). SERVICE AIMS TO HELP FOREIGN EMBASSIES IN THE U.S.
The Electronic Embassy project, by TeleDiplomacy, Inc., exists to help foreign embassies in Washington, D.C., better serve their constituencies in the U.S. and worldwide. The server provides general information on the embassies, as well as pointers to existing embassy Web and Gopher sites. They have an index of all D.C. embassies and many related governmental offices. A calendar of important D.C. area functions should be available soon. "http://www.embassy.org/"
YOUR WINDOW ON WALT DISNEY WORLD
Be our guest, be our guest, put this Web site to the test. You'll find tickets, reservations, accommodations, and the rest. (Stop the music!) You'd think Walt Disney World (that's Florida for the geographically impaired) had gotten big enough, what with Disney MGM Studios, the Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, and more all tied together in one fabulously arranged, conveniently linked mega theme park. But it's still growing - and on the electronic frontierland, no less. Some parts of this new site are still under construction - just like your favorite rides, don't you know - but don't despair; there's always something to do, like checking out the ever-expanding array of pricey hotels. Can you say supercalafragilisticexpealadocious? Can you spell it? "http://www.travelweb.com/thisco/wdw/wdwhome/wdw.html"
Fun, funky, and friendly - that's the Hong Kong Online Guide. Here, you'll find the requisite travel items like airline, hotel, restaurant, and shopping information; the usual history, business, and cultural tidbits; and perhaps most interestingly, photographs of the world's largest pair of jeans (they're HUGE!) and a virtual menu of traditional dishes you can order to (virtually) eat in or take out. "http://www.hk.super.net/~webzone/hongkong.html"
With the logic that "if you want to make a splash on the internet, you need water", Internet Connect Niagara, a service provider on Ontario's side of the river, has mounted a video camera on top of the Sheraton overlooking Niagara Falls. You can watch a real-time 10-second MPEG movie of the falls with one of the viewers available for downloading. Time-consuming, but impressive on a nice day. There's also a few links to the local tourist region. "http://fallscam.niagara.com/"
LONE MAN, LONE CAMERA, LONE STAR STATE
Skip Powell and his video camera are running loose in Texas. From the "Big E Emu Farms" in Weatherford, Tex., to F-16 fighter planes, these are his pictures. No explanation, no bio. Jes' some links to Texas Wildflowers (don't pick 'em!), the Fort Worth Nature Center, even current Dallas weather stats. If you're homesick for the Lone Star State, mosey on over for a spell. SCENIC AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY FROM ARIZONA
Beautiful shots of the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Monument Valley, and Lake Powell areas of Arizona are found at the Aerial*Zona Web site. For a great preview of some of the images, click on the first link "Our Office/Gallery". In a single 25 kB byte picture, they manage to give you a feel for their photography. The low resolution images are great photography and are well presented on the Web. Other crafters of graphic sites should learn from this page's low ratio of bandwidth over quality. "http://www.netwest.com/~aerial/index.html"
We can't imagine entertainment of any greater magnitude. Type in a message, hit "return", and it travels through Web-space to Michael Witbrook's Amiga, which speaks it aloud to his cat. Hopefully, the cat is nearby. "http://queer.slip.cs.cmu.edu/cgi-bin/talktocat"
THE GREAT INTERNET POPULATION PREDICTOR
Enter any date, and this page will predict how many people will then be on the Net. Base your entire marketing strategy on this; it's as accurate as anything else. There's also a card trick. "http://www.anamorph.com/docs/stats/stats.html"
With more bands - old and new - than you can shake a cursor at, this site rules. It's got lyrics, so you can finally figure out the Spanish in the Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go?", which is reputedly about Spain's relationship with NATO. U.S.: "http://turnpike.net/metro/punk/punk.html" Europe: "http://www.cs.vu.nl/~epdouden/punk/"
CALIFORNIA COAST SCIENCE EXCURSIONS
Besides having possibly the longest URL in the universe, Redwood Exposure's ad for their scientific excursions to the redwood forests and coastline of California's North Coast are kinda neat. "http://www.northcoast.com/unlimited/services_listing/redwood_exposure/redwood_exposure.html"
Rob Hansen wants your strange and unusual pictures for his Yikes page. Great concept, but still early in it's evolution. Help him out and submit a photo. "http://www.inference.com/~hansen/yikes.html"
WEB CHESS ENGINE BEATS MOST CHALLENGERS
Click to this interactive chess-playing page and try to beat the server. Most challengers lose, but we can't vouch for their ability compared to yours. "http://alfred.niehs.nih.gov:80/Demo/WWWChess"
You'll probably never escape this Web maze, but you probably won't mind as the scenery's so pretty. "http://www.obs-us.com:80/obs/english/books/holt/books/maze/index.html"

NEW AGE PAGE WITH NUMEROLOGY GAUGE
Are you a New Ager? We forgive you. We'll even point you to Sun Angel Innovations, with its neato stuff, like the numerology analyzer and info on the esoteric qualities of gemstones. But smarten up, OK? "http://www.sun-angel.com/"
U.S. REPUBLICAN PARTY ON THE NEWT - ER, NET
GOP Online contains an index to Net info regarding Republican Party candidates, incumbents, and organizations at the national, state, and local levels. For the unaware, GOP stands for "Grand Old Party". "http://www.gop.org/"
MULTILINGUAL PC SOFTWARE DIRECTORY AVAILABLE ON NET
A source guide to multilingual and foreign language software for IBM PCs and compatibles is available in full text, in Windows Help File format, or as a 256-page book. "If you need a word processor to write in Arabic, a spelling checker for Russian, a program to translate between English and Japanese, or some Indian TrueType fonts for Windows, then you need The Multilingual PC Directory." The preceding quote from the overview of the site gives you some idea of the intended scope. "http://www.knowledge.co.uk/xxx/"
